Explanation of table Currently, there are no independent recommended list trials for Red Clover in the Republic of Ireland. England and Wales have an extensive trialling network, with Fearga performing as follows: Fearga performs better than the mean of the recommended varieties for:
  • Yield in all three harvest years
  • Exceptional yield advantage in Year 3 inferring more remarkable persistence over existing varieties
  • The highest available mean yield compared to any of the existing recommended red clover varieties.
  • Better ground cover in year two and year three further conforming to improved persistence

Diamond Premium Clover

Key Characteristics
  • Maximize Nitrogen Fixation and Animal Performance with Diamond Premium Clover
  • 1.5 kgs of Medium Leaf Clover is recommended by Teagasc to ensure optimum levels of clover in established sward
  • Chieftain and Crusader are the proven white clover varieties, with excellent performance in repeated trials
  • Meiduno, GlenField and AstonConqueror have extremely high spring growth on the 2022 Pasture Profit Index (PPI), meaning they are best suited to compensate for typically lower spring growth in a high clover sward
  • High PPI Grass Varieties also have excellent Seasonal Yield, Quality and Graze – Out
  • Highly ranked graze out varieties mean better grazed out swards. A good graze out is a key factor in promoting clover content. Clover content drives N fixation

Diamond Overseeding White Clover

100% white clover available coated and uncoated in 5kgs packs Top Tips for success Management is key. Target a maximum

Diamond Hi-Density

LATE HEADING MIX WHERE SWARD DENSITY IS A PRIORITY, WITH THE OPTION OF A SILAGE CUT

  • GLENFIELD High PPI late tetraploid bred by Teagasc OAKPARK with leading seasonal growth and silage yield.
  • OAKPARK High PPI late diploid bred by Teagasc OAKPARK. Excellent seasonal growth, silage yield & ground cover
  • ASTONKING Excellent Spring and with Good Grazing Characters
  • CRUSADER Exceptional white clover that can tolerate tight grazing
High Diploid mixture creates a denser sward, meaning this sward more competitive under lower Nitrogen, high rainfall areas or slower draining soil

Diamond Hi-Digestibility

LATE HEADING INTENSIVE GRAZING MIX FOR EASY CLEAN-OUT, HIGH SPRING AND SEASONAL GROWTH WITH THE OPTION OF A SILAGE CUT

  • ASTONENERGY Unmatched digestibility and clean graze out. Consistent for graze out. Highest quality on the 2022 Pasture Profit Index
  • GLENFIELD Late tetraploid with exceptional spring and total yield on the 2022 Pasture Profit Index. Brilliant combination of spring growth and with 5 star on the Teagasc Grazing Utilisation Trait
  • ASTONCONQUEROR The Highest PPI diploid with 4 Grazing Stars. Best Combination of Seasonal Growth and Grazing Utilisation Trait
  • CRUSADER Exceptional white clover that can tolerate tight grazing

Diamond Red Clover Silage

  • Intensive silage mixture, designed for 3-4 years
  • Moira and Fintona are among the highest performing ryegrass varieties under silage Index on the 2022 Pasture Profit Index
  • Huge potential to reduce chemical N in the produced of winter fodder
  • Will continue as a normal grass sward with white clover afterwards
  • White clover will fill spaces created by red clover dying out
  • Produces high protein and high digestibility silage
  • Can be grazed, but important not to over graze red clover
  • Stock and machinery damage to sward can shorten lifespan of red clover – target field operations in dry spell
  • Conservation of dry crop is more critical with a high clover sward – target lighter crops that are easier to wilt
  • Clover will only provide Nitrogen to the sward. Other mineral requirements, especially P and K will need to be applied to match herbage off take
  • Clover is heavier and more free flowing seed than grass seed, so it is important to calibrate seed drills before sowing

Diamond Red Clover Grazing – N Saver

  • High Clover mixture allowing nitrogen saving once established
  • AstonEnergy is a 5 star grazing variety, AstonConqueror is a 4 star grazing variety – Better grazouts promotes clover development
  • Astonenergy is the highest quality variety on the 2022 Pasture Profit Index – sward quality drive animal performance
  • Tested in Teagasc Solohead with zero chemical Nitrogen after seeding, achieving high DM yield
  • Red Clover quickly develops produces Nitrogen in the year of sowing
  • Can be grazed but intensive grazing will shorten lifespan of red clover
  • White clover will fill spaces created by red clover dying out
  • Chieftain and Crusader white clover are the most common white clovers used in Ireland tried and tested across all soil types
Note: reduced chemical Nitrogen should be accompanied by regular grass measuring to track sward performance. Reduced chemical Nitrogen can lead to reduced feed supply if inadequate clover present

100% white clover available coated and uncoated in 5kgs packs Top Tips for success Management is key. Target a maximum

Diamond Overseeding

• Overseeding mixture with excellent grass varieties for grazing and silage swards • High proportion (74%) tetraploids included for overseeding • Tetraploids have larger seed with a larger energy reserve allowing for greater success when overseeding • Tetraploids have and erect growth habit meaning that they can compete for light with the existing sward better
